A run scored off a passed ball proved to be the difference on Thursday, as Bondurant-Farrar was just able to hold off a late Pella surge, 5 – 4 in early season baseball action. The Bluejays had a 1 – 0 lead going into the second inning, and Logan Little took Tanner Wood deep to left for a three-run blast to break the game open to 4 – 0. They would add a run thanks to a passed ball later on to make it 5 – 0, but Pella would not go down without a fight, scoring four runs in the fifth thanks to a two-run double off the bat of Jason Morgan and two more crossing the plate due to a Bluejay error. The Little Dutch would get the tying run to second base in the seventh, but he would get no closer as Bondurant-Farrar held on to win. Freshman Grant Judkins came on in relief of Tanner Wood and was lights out, allowing an unearned run and two hits through four innings of work. Coach Jesse Jablonski talked after the game about the gutsy performance of his freshman pitcher. Pella starts the season 0 – 2, and will next play at Chariton this Thursday.
