A career-best day for Eric Larson allowed him to take an early lead in the decathlon at the NCAA Division III outdoor track and field championships on Thursday. Larson scored 3,744 points with help from winning both the high and long jump competitions. Josh Fleming just finished out of the cut in the discus, with his throw of 165-2 being tenth best in a field where the top nine advance to the final. Sophomore Eli Horton was 14th in the prelim round of the 1,500 meters, and Cole Decker lost a shoe in the 10,000 meters and finishing 16th. Felicia Coleman, the lone Dutch woman at the national tournament, crossed the line 16th in the 200 meters. Day two of the championships continue today, with Eric Larson continuing his decathlon run at 2:00 p.m.
