It’s a Civil War-themed day Saturday. At the Marion County Historical Village, Civil War Days runs from 7am-4pm. That will include a presentation from the Army of the Southwest Iowa Civil War reenactors. Meanwhile, Governor Terry Branstad visits Vicksburg, Mississippi, for the rededication of the Iowa State Memorial. A number of Iowa soldiers fought in Vicksburg during the Civil War, including Colonial William Milo Stone, of Knoxville. Stone eventually became governor and helped found the Iowa Republican Party.
A church service will be held at the chapel at the Historical Village tomorrow beginning at 10am. The service will last about 40 minutes and feature a Rev. Olympia Brown impersonator. Brown was among the few female preachers during the Civil War era, making her a controversial figure.
