The Marion County Historical Village is remembering the Civil War during its 150th anniversary this weekend as it presents Civil War Days. The event also serves as the opening of the Historical Village’s 2013 season. Event organizer Janet Ritchie tells KNIA/KRLS News that the Army of the Southwest Iowa Civil War reenactors will be on site all day, recreating different scenes from the war. There will be plenty of other Civil War-themed activities and lots of food as well, including pancakes, ham sandwiches, and drinks from the era. Saturday’s activities run from 7am-4pm Ritchie says it’s a great way to promote the Historical Village to all of Marion County.
Ritchie adds on Sunday, there will be a church service at 10am delivered by a Reverend Olympia Brown impersonator. Reverend Brown was among the few female preachers during the era. The service is expected to last around 40 minutes
