Very exciting action highlighted the first of three days of competition for the Class 3A State Track Meet in Des Moines on Thursday. Pella nabbed their first state championship of the day in the 4 x 800 meter relay, breaking a 30-plus year-old school record by crossing the finish line with a time of under eight minutes. Other highlights for Pella and Knoxville include their 100 meter dash performances; both Tanner Dunkin and Chris Brogden will be in the finals of that exciting event on Satudray due to their stellar showings in the prelims yesterday. Wick Cunningham placed seventh overall in the boys’ 3200 meters, and Makenna Bogaard and Mackenzie Gustafson finished 14th and 15th, respectively, in the girls’ 400 meter dash. Little Dutch head coach, Brent Van Hauen gives his thoughts on his team’s performance in day number one of competition. The 3A side of things today will get started around 2:40 PM, and be sure to keep listening to KNIA/KRLS, and keep refreshing KNIAKRLS.com as we’ll have results for our local athletes up first, fast and accurately.
