The Marion County Board of Supervisors approved closing down the courthouse during RAGBRAI on July 24th during their regular meeting yesterday. This means that all non-emergency Courthouse personnel will not come into work that day. The decision was made after discussion regarding security and liability concerns. With at least a one-to-two block radius closed to traffic around the square, many department heads felt they would likely have less traffic inside and would have a more difficult time providing some services. The board voted 2-1 to close the Courthouse that day and treat it as a snow day, meaning those employees would be paid. Supervisor Craig Agan voted against the measure.
