A juvenile who attends Twin Cedars High School has been charged after allegedly making on-line threats. After consultation with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, the Marion County Attorney’s Office determined that a juvenile female had placed threats of bodily harm on a social media site. Associate Judge Steven Guiter authorized her immediate detention. The juvenile was placed in the state detention facility in Eldora.
She appeared in Associate District Court today, Thursday May 2, 2013 where Judge Guiter authorized her continued detention, over the juvenile’s objection. She will be back in court next Wednesday May 8, 2013. Marion County Attorney, Ed Bull provided the following statement:
“My office will not tolerate any individual, including juveniles, making threats of bodily harm against others. I am unwilling to not act swiftly when there is the potential that serious harm may occur against others. I am hopeful that this detention as well as the detention of the juvenile last month who made threats against Pella High School students and staff sends a strong message that this type of behavior, even if made in jest, will not be tolerated. I wish to commend the Twin Cedars students who quickly brought their concerns to the attention of the school administration and law enforcement. They are responsible for heading off what could have been horrific tragedies.”
