While the record breaking snow was the big news in Pella last week, another record was broken during Tulip Time. As previously reported, Wednesday night Pella welcomed the 20th Tulip Time Klompen Classic, a 5K road race and a 5K walk. A record 2415 people battled the elements and took part in the race. Danny Ducharme of Pella was the men’s winner, Robyn Friedman of Newton led the women. In an update on the race, Jim Hibma with Crossroads of Pella, one of the organizers, tells KNIA/KRLS News that the race has been run for 20 years, and that this year also marked the 20,000th runner to participate. The first year the race was run there were 287 participants.
