As many as 14 events will have a Knoxville Athlete at the State Track Meet next week. 11 have already clinched a spot just by finishing in the top two. The first place qualifiers were: Tanner Dunkin in the 100 and 200, Wick Cunningham in the 800, 1600, and 3200, Ryan Douglas in the 400 hurdles, Nathan Winters in the discus, and 4×400. Second place qualifiers were: Colton Spaur in the 200, Jacob Moats in the high jump, and Joe Stearns in the shot put. There are three events that will have to see if they made it in on time. Douglas in the 110 hurdles, medley relay team and Jacob Moats in the 400 according to Coach Mike Cunningham II have a good shot of qualifying, but must wait to see if they are officially wild card qualifiers. With all the first and second place medal, Knoxville easily outdistanced Dallas Center-Grimes 164-111 to win its sixth championship in eight seasons and third in a row. On the girls side, no automatic qualifiers, however a few girls and relays finished third place and will wait and see if they qualify on their time and distances. Third place winners include: Laney Cushman in the 200, Tori Johnston in the 400 hurdles, 4×200, shuttle hurdle, Chambray Daugherty in the high jump, and Emily Belloma in the long jump. Knoxville as a team finished fourth with 87 total points.
