A four run eighth put the Knoxville Baseball Squad over the top to defeat Winterset last night 8-4 in eight innings. The Panthers struck first in the first and second innings to go up 3-0, but the Huskies responded in the bottom half of the second with three of their own to tie the game at three. It stayed that way until the fifth when Winterset plated a run to go 4-3. Knoxville would get the tying run home in the seventh on a Nolan Wallace sacrifice fly to right field. That set the stage for the four-run eighth. Ross Shelford started it off when he doubled home Justin Lenger, then Tony Salato bright home Shelford. Two more runs would score, and the Panthers sat down the Huskies in the bottom of the eighth in order to get the win. Coach Joel Johnson said Kevin Woodhouse was outstanding on the mound the rest of the team also played well defensively. Woodhouse went the distance allowing four runs, scattering seven hits, mowing down eight Huskie batters and issuing no walks. Knoxville also got good contributions from the plate, up and down the order. The Panthers are 1-0 on the season and will host Van Meter in a double header starting today at noon.
