McDonald’s in Knoxville will be closed throughout the summer as it gets completely rebuilt. Owner Cara VanSteenis tells KNIA/KRLS News that Memorial Day will be the last day they’re open until September. She says it’s not the timing that she wished for, as they’ll be closed for RAGBRAI and Nationals, but plans to start construction earlier were put off by weather.
When it reopens in September, VanSteenis says everything will be brand new, and the lobby will be more open. There will also be two drive-through lanes, and they’ll try being open 24 hours for both the drive-through and lobby.
VanSteenis says that they’ve been able to find a place for all of their employees at other locations in Pella and Oskaloosa, and are working to ensure transportation is available for them. When they reopen in September, she thinks she could hire up to 30 more workers in addition to those she has now. The opening date for the new McDonald’s is scheduled right now for September 12th.
