This past week has been National Emergency Medical Services Week. The week is a time of safety promotion and recognition of EMS workers. Director of Pella Ambulance Doug Polking tells KNIA/KRLS News that the EMS volunteer workers are a crucial part of Pella Ambulance’s success, and that they deserve the recognition. This year’s theme was “EMS: One Mission, One Team.”

Knoxville Fire Chief Nick Bonstell tells KNIA/KRLS News that they spend a lot of time training in order to ensure they’re up-to-date on the latest tools and technologies, even on weekends. Last weekend, Knoxville Fire and Rescue participated in an emergency vehicle operator course; last month, fire and rescue personnel and dispatchers from across the county participated in an incident command course. Bonstell says the training is also a great way to network with other area agencies and build comradery.
