The damp field conditions and overcast skies did not stray away a bit from the excitement and jubilation on the pitch of Pella High Stadium after the last second ticked off the clock, as the Little Dutch soccer team defeated Centerville Saturday, 2 – 0 to earn a trip back to the state tournament in Des Moines. With the wind in their favor and time winding down in the first half, Pella scored first with a nice pass from Anthony Bentzinger to Jacob Vollmar who found the back of the net at minute 35. Bentzinger did the work himself just three minutes later on a corner kick to make the score 2 – 0, and Pella’s defense was able to withstand a more aggressive Big Red team in the second half to hold on for the victory. The Little Dutch are 13 – 5 – 2, and earned a number four seed in the state tournament at the Cownie Soccer Complex in Des Moines starting on Thursday. They will play Little Hawkeye Conference rival, Norwalk, who earned a number five seed, at 2:40 p.m.
