Two goals within an eight minute span broke open a close match and allowed Pella to leave Ken Locke Stadium with a 3-0 win over Knoxville in boy’s soccer last night. Both teams were getting defensive early on, however Pella found the net in the first half when Noah Clayberg in the 25th minute for the only goal of the first half. Pella would turn up the offense late in the second half to notch a goal in the 72nd minute by Seth Johnson, then put the match out of reach in the 84th minute by a penalty kick from Jacob Vollmar. Pella Coach Mark Solomon said after some early season struggles, both offense and defense played well. Missed opportunities for Knoxville was the theme. Coach Dylan Mick said even with the wind in their face, his team was unable to generate any goals. Pella improves to 9-2-2 on the season and 4-0 in the Little Hawkeye Conference while Knoxville drops to 5-6, and 2-3 in the conference.
