The entire Marion County community is invited out to Pleasantville this weekend for the Pleasantville Pig Out. Things get started tonight at 6pm. Activities include a free hog roast, a rib eating contest, and a celebrity pig show featuring Sheriff Jason Sandholdt, Represenative Greg Heartsill, former Iowa State Fair Queen Lacy Stevenson, and football coach Gabe Bakker.
The car show and barbecue contest return tomorrow. The public is invited to sample and help judge the barbecue contest, featuring 19 different cooks. More than 160 cars were registered for last year’s show. Event organizer Brandon Bingham says they’re also selling wristbands and taking donations this year to help a young Pleasantville girl who had a brain tumor removed this week. The Big Red Radio will be at the Pig Out tomorrow from 9am-to-4pm, playing music and making announcements for the crowd.
