Snow during Tulip Time? Well, the record breaking weather event happened, with up to four inches being measured in Pella on Friday. Bonnie Verburg, Director of the Vermeer Windmill tells KNIA/KRLS that Tulip Time veterans remember snow flurries in the past, but no measurable snow. The National Weather Service in Johnston confirms this, saying snow flurries have occurred several times in the past 30 years during Tulip Time, and that while historic records are sketchy, the last measurable snow during the first two weeks of May was in 1907. The first Tulip Time was in 1935.
