Central did not start their regular-season finale week off on the right foot Tuesday, dropping a pair of games to Simpson. The Dutch’s Robbie Rushing hit only the second home run of the year by Central to tie things up at three-a-side in game number one. The marathon game went to 11 innings, when the Storm plated the go-ahead run and held on to win, 4 – 3. In game two, Central had a 3 – 1 lead going into the fifth, but two errors and a hit batsman allowed Simpson to plate four runners and secure the sweep with a 5 – 3 win. Central head coach, Adam Stevens said that his guys just haven’t been able to come up with that one big hit offensively. Central falls to 17 – 16 overall and they are 9 – 13 in the conference. This weekend’s regular-season finale with Luther becomes all the more critical for the Dutch, as a birth in the Iowa Conference tournament will be at stake. Weather pending, the first pair of contests takes place on Friday.
