Has it ever snowed in Pella on Tulip Time? With the possibility of snow in the forecast, this was a question posed yesterday to our news staff by KNIA/KRLS listeners. Bonnie Verburg, Director of the Vermeer Windmill tells KNIA/KRLS that Tulip Time veterans remember snow flurries in the past, but no measurable snow. The National Weather Service in Johnston confirms this, saying snow flurries have occurred several times in the past 30 years during Tulip Time, and that while historic records are sketchy, the last measurable snow during was likely in 1907. The first Tulip Time was in 1935.
