As the school year comes to an end and summer approaches, Lieutenant Paul Haase with the Pella Police Department says that both pool and bike safety should be at the forefront of peoples’ minds. With more children outside during the summer months, traffic safety is a priority. However, summer safety does not just apply to children. As graduation parties and Memorial Day draw near, Haase emphasizes the importance of avoiding drunk driving.
Knoxville Police Chief Dan Losada says that he worries most about accidents during this time of year. He explains there will be more kids out in yards, sidewalks, and even some side streets during the daytime and early evening hours. Losada says drivers need to take more precautions as they’re driving in neighborhoods, explaining you never know when a child could dart in front of a vehicle to grab a ball.
