With winter weather now hopefully behind us and summer in sight, many people will start spending time outside. Judi Van Hulzen at Marion County Public Health says the county has had one case of West Nile Virus and eleven cases of Salmonella in the past year. She reminds people put on bug spray while outside, and to eliminate any standing water you may have in your yard. While on the barbecue, make sure to wash your hands before handling meat, and be sure to cook meet all the way through. Van Hulzen adds you shouldn’t be handling raw meat and working with an infant at the same time.
