Pella Christian baseball and softball seemed to have the offense working for them last night, as they each picked up a win against Little Hawkeye Conference foe, Grinnell. The Eagles’ softball team had a walk-off groundout for the win in their contest, 7 – 6. Tessa Howerzyl doubled home a run and Jaynee VandeWeerdhof and Brooke Mitrisin each had a hit as well. Taylor Hartson earned a rare win plus a save on the mound. A slumping Tigers’ baseball squad was no match for the Eagles, and Pella Christian handily won their game 16 – 6. Caleb Morgan and Dillon Branderhorst had two hits apiece, and they each drove in four runs. Spencer Fynaardt and Jason Holwerda also had a pair of hits for Eagles’ baseball, who improves to 7 – 8 overall with a record of 2 – 5 in the league. Pella Christian softball also improves to a record of 7 – 9 – 1 and is 2 – 5 in within the conference. Eagles’ softball will host a varsity doubleheader against Newton tonight, and the baseball team will play a JV/Varsity game at Knoxville to make-up for last Friday’s rainout. You can hear tonight’s baseball contest live on 92.1 KRLS and streamed live at kniakrls.com with Cory Houser and Marcus Johnson on the call.
