Friday was a bit of an ominous schedule for the Pella High ball clubs, but they each did very well against the teams they faced. The Little Dutch baseball team beat a Class 4A Southeast Polk squad, 7 – 4. Jacob Gleason got the win on the mound, pitching six-and-a-third innings, giving up four hits, four runs (one earned), five walks, and striking out ten Rams. Grant Judkins earned the save by getting the last two outs of the game with the tying run at the plate. Judkins went 2-for-3 with two RBI’s at the plate, Daniel Langenfeld was 2-for-4, and Gleason was 2-for-4 with three RBI’s. The Lady Dutch split in their two games last night. Pella started by playing Perry and winning 8 – 3. Elyse Sadler earned the win by scattering six hits but racking up 11 of their own. Game two was a pitcher’s duel with Pella taking on West Delaware, and it was the Hawks winning 2 – 0. Coach Krista DeMeulenaere tells KNIA/KRLS Sports that freshman pitcher Alexa Dingeman may have taken the loss in the game, but she pitched awesome in her debut. The Pella boys are now 6 – 11, while the Lady Dutch are 9 – 11. The Little Dutch are off until Monday when they play Grinnell, and the softball team will play Ankeny and Ames in their two games of tournament action starting later this morning.
