The PCM baseball and softball teams were able to come away with wins over Heart of Iowa Conference rival, South Hamilton on Friday night. The Mustangs’ softball team won 8 – 2 in their contest. Emily Hugen rattled a pair of doubles and Abbi Gilson knocked another ball out of the park for her second home run of the year. Pitcher Payge Edwards was an enigma on the mound, striking out ten South Hamilton batters en route to the win. The PCM baseball team had a little more drama in their game at home, as they walked off with a win 3 – 2. PCM was down 2 – 1 heading into their half of the seventh, and they were able to push the game-tying and winning runs across the plate with two outs, thanks to a walk-off infield single by Ethan Kain, who beat the throw to first for the win. Freshman Austin Brown picked up the win, pitching all seven innings, giving up just two hits, two runs, two walks and striking out five. PCM’s softball team is 2 – 1, while the baseball team improves to 3 – 1. Softball heads to Bondurant-Farrar for a tournament today, and the baseball squad will play Monday at Roland-Story.
