Pella and Oskaloosa baseball and softball came away with a win and a loss in their varsity doubleheaders Wednesday night. Elyse Sadler was the pitcher of note in both games; losing the first one 3 – 2, but coming back strong in the nightcap to win 2 – 1. Allie DeMeulenaere was 3-for-6 on the night, and catcher Morgan Ernst picked up three base hits in the doubleheader. The Pella boys also were involved in two close games with the Indians; losing game one 5 – 3, but winning the finale 5 – 4 in nine innings. Pella had the game-tying runs aboard in the seventh, but grounded into a game-ending double play. Isaac Naaktgeboren went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Daniel Langenfeld also drove in a run. Tanner Wood took the loss, pitching six innings and striking out ten. The Little Dutch would come back in the second game and walk-off a winner, thanks to a squeeze bunt from Langenfeld. Ethan Butler relieved Naaktgeboren on the mound and threw five innings, giving up just one hit, walking two, and striking out four to get the win. The Lady Dutch sit at an 8 – 10 record overall with a mark of 5 – 3 in the conference, while Pella baseball is now 4 – 11 and 3 – 5, respectively. The baseball team hosts Des Moines North in non-conference action tonight, and softball is off today to get ready for two straight days of non-conference play, starting with Perry and West Delaware on Friday.
