What was once scheduled to be a doubleheader was shortened to just one contest between Pella and Norwalk Friday night. The skies and rain cleared up just long enough for them to get a game (or thereabouts) in. Norwalk prevailed in the softball contest, 6 – 0. Elyse Sadler was the pitcher of record for the Lady Dutch, allowing six runs on eight hits. Pella did muster four hits, with two coming from Sara Tallman and one apiece from Allie DeMeulenaere and Sierra Williams. Unfortunately for the Pella High baseball team, they couldn’t get five innings in before a lightning delay and then rain forced the game to be ended in the bottom of the fifth with Norwalk up to bat and two outs. The Warriors officially won the game 5 – 2. Tanner Wood and Matt Nieuwsma each went 1-for-2 with Wood picking up an RBI. Ryan Shull drove in the other run for the Little Dutch. Tanner Wood was also the pitcher for Pella; taking the loss throwing four-and-two-thirds innings, giving up five runs, three of them earned, and striking out three. Pella softball drops to 5 – 9 on the year and the baseball team is now 3 – 9. The second game of each doubleheader that was supposed to be played will be tacked on to the home game between these two teams that Pella will host at the beginning of July.
