Pella High baseball had played nothing but close contests all year long, and had not been on the wrong end of an early night until yesterday, when Saydel came to town and won 12 – 2 in six innings. Pella had a 2 – 1 lead going into the fifth, when the Eagles scored eight in the top of the frame, and then tacked on three more in the sixth to finish the deal. Greg Frommelt went 2-for-2 at the plate and knocked in a run for the Little Dutch, and Ethan Butler was 1-for-2. Pella falls to 8 – 13 on the year, and they get back to conference play tonight with a big doubleheader against a surprising Knoxville team. The Panthers beat league-leading Norwalk on Wednesday, and split last night’s doubleheader with Newton. Knoxville also won the first game of this series in walk-off fashion with a three-run seventh inning, 10 – 9. Coach Jesse Jablonski says that his team needs to block that game out of their memory bank. You can catch game two of tonight’s big doubleheader live on 92.1 KRLS and streamed live at KNIAKRLS.com with Cory Houser and Marcus Johnson calling the action. Pregame coverage starts at roughly 6:45 p.m. with first pitch scheduled for 7:00.
