Twin Cedars’ softball came out on the winning side of two close contests on Saturday in tournament action in New Sharon. The Sabers collected 13 hits in a 6 – 5, nine-inning victory over Pleasantville in game one. The Trojans tied the game at three-a-side in the bottom of the seventh inning; both teams each scored two in the eighth; and Twin Cedars tallied the game-winning run in the ninth and held on for the “W.” Sophomore Mackenzie Sedlock got the win by pitching all nine innings and allowing five runs with five strikeouts. Bailey Stone and Payton Fee had three hits apiece for the Sabers, who went on to face North Mahaska in the championship, and won 4 – 2. Brittney Roby collected three hits and got the win on the mound, pitching the complete game, allowing only two runs on three hits and striking out six. Twin Cedars improves to 11 – 6 on the season and they will host Wayne for a game later today.
