A pair of first half goals from Mallory Lynch were just enough to hold off a furious Dallas Center-Grimes comeback in the second half of the quarterfinals of the Class 2A State Girls’ Soccer tournament Thursday afternoon, with Pella coming out victorious 2 – 1. Lynch scored in the 20” off a pass from Bri Schroder, and then again just nine minutes later on a beautiful cross from Allie DeMeulenaere. The Fillies fought hard in the second forty minutes; Shelby Bowersox tallied a goal ten minutes into the second period to cut Pella’s lead in half, and it seemed like Dallas Center-Grimes had a plethora of scoring chances and the momentum but just couldn’t get the job done. Coach Mark Howard said after the game that his girls did what they had to to prevent the Fillies from tying the game. Pella is now 18 – 1 on the season and will play seven-time defending champion, Cedar Rapids Xavier in the semifinals tomorrow at 4:45 p.m.
