A team of 13-year-old boys from Knoxville are state champions. The team won the 13 year old USSSA AA Boys state title yesterday by defeating Lin-Marr for the title in 11 innings 12-to-11. The team played in Cedar Rapids over the weekend and beat teams from Burlington, Ames, Waukee, Cedar Rapids Prairie, and Lin-Marr.

Mike Wallace, who is one of the coaches, tells KNIA/KRLS Sports that as of now, they are undecided if they will go on to another state tournament or to a national event. Wallace says with a couple of exceptions, this is the same group that made the State Little League Tournament last summer. He adds that they have been invited to the Battle of the Borders next summer. Wallace is also joined on the coaching staff by Ryan Roberts, Mark Zuck, and Mike Vaske. The team has a record this spring and summer of 21-6-1, have won 11 straight games and have placed first in three tournaments this season.
