They met ten years ago on this very stage and with the same implications: win or your state tournament run is over before it began, and tonight, Twin Cedars and Martensdale-St. Mary’s square off at Principal Park in round one of the Class 1A state baseball tournament. The Sabers are 35 – 2 while the Blue Devils enter with a mark of 30 – 9. Otis Roby was the winning pitcher on the mound for Twin Cedars in their regular season game with Martensdale in mid-to-late June, with the Sabers squeaking out a 5 – 4 win over the three-time defending champions. Coach Matt Miller says their approach is going to be status quo of what they have been doing all year. Tonight’s state tournament opener for Class 1A for these two schools will be aired live on AM 1320 KNIA and streamed live at KNIAKRLS.com with Cory Houser and Marcus Johnson on the call. Our pregame coverage will start at around 7:45 p.m. and first pitch is scheduled for 8:00.
