The Knoxville City Council approved a bid from Hawkeye Paving Corporation for the Streetscape Project last night. As KNIA/KRLS previously reported, that bid came in just under 3.1 million dollars. The Council bonded for 3.3 million dollars previously, so they have room for contingencies. The bid allows for the contractor to start construction work on July 29th, though that start date is not official at this time. The Council accepted a report from engineer Synder and Associates that shows separate sites on the southwest and northeast ends of town provide the best opportunities for future housing developments.
