Not everyone in Pella is Dutch, but with the help of Lisa Zylstra and Dutch Day Camp, those who have ancestors from the Netherlands will be aware of their heritage for generations to come. This year, Zylstra has 26 students participating in the day camps 23rd year of existence. The idea for the dutch inspired course came from a professor at Central who thought that Zylstra had the skills and knowledge to create what the camp has become today. Zylstra says that at first, the students were mostly grandchildren of Pella residents who lived elsewhere and wanted to learn about their Dutch heritage, but now many of the campers are kids from the Pella area.
