The Pella Christian boys and girls ball clubs had polar opposite nights on the field Wednesday. The softball team swept the Tigers, 8 – 7 in eight innings, and 14 – 1 in five. Brooke Mitrisin was 2-for-5 with two runs scored in game one; Tessa Howerzyl singled, walked twice and scored four runs, Abby Pleima singled twice, and Mitrisin had a pair of hits in game two. Shannon Fynaardt and Taylor Hartson each earned wins on the mound for Pella Christian, who are now 13 – 15 – 1 overall. Their last test of the regular season is a doubleheader at Knoxville on Friday. For the Eagles’ boys, a close game and a blowout did not go their way. They dropped game one, 4 – 3 and the night cap 10 – 0. Dillon Branderhorst had two hits in that first game, Clay Stravers and Jason Holwerda each had a hit and a run scored. The Eagles’ boys are now 12 – 16, and they’ll host rival PCM for a non-conference game tomorrow night.
