Today is Independence Day. Simply known as the 4th of July by many, it’s the anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. The document was eventually signed by 56 colonial delegates in Philadelphia, including Benjamin Franklin, John Hancock, and future presidents Thomas Jefferson and John Adams. Government offices, post offices, and banks are closed today. Communities across America, including here in Marion County, celebrate with parades, cookouts, fireworks, and more.
