The Knoxville School District is going to have to find different ways to increase athletic department revenues. That’s one of Superintendent Dr. Randy Flack’s thoughts after last week’s discussion regarding the athletics department budget. The department had a $16,000 deficit in the fiscal year that ended in June. That includes an $8000 decrease in revenues.

Dr. Flack says that athletic department has done a good job in recent years in keeping expenses within their budgeted amount. He continues that though expenses may have to come down somewhat, it’s important to ensure revenues rise again. Revenues are almost exclusively made up of ticket sales. Last week, the board was told that student activity tickets were down versus the year before. The school also had one less home football game; football accounts for typically the biggest revenues for a single game.
