Pella High’s soccer teams were not only well-represented at the state tournaments last month, they can be found up-and-down state honors lists, too. Five members of the Lady Dutch found themselves on the Academic All-State Soccer Team for 2013. Making the first team were Jillian Sagers, Gabi Meirick and Heather Van Wyk. Receiving an honorable mention were Zoe Vermeer and Allie DeMeulenaere. Though they didn’t make it to the state tournament, Pella Christian had eight Lady Eagles make it on that same academic list. Morgan DeRuiter was chosen to the first team, and both Courtney Nikkel and Rachel Vermeer were on the second team academic all-state. Five Eagles received honorable mentions, including Jo Brouwer, Morgan Anderson, Michaela Chapman, Buffy Bouwkamp and Abby Pleima. Pella Christian finished with a 7 – 13 record and made it to the Class 1A regional semifinals where they lost to Nevada. The Pella High girls made it to the Class 2A state semifinals where they lost to eventual champion Cedar Rapids Xavier.
