It may come as no surprise to anyone, but the Pella High baseball team in 2013 very easily could have been undefeated or at least close to it and still be playing baseball at this point. The team was involved in several contests decided by two runs or less; in fact, they rarely were faced with a big hole to climb out of on the scoreboard. One game that sticks out to Coach Jesse Jablonski was their game with Oskaloosa in the final couple of weeks of the regular season. The Indians got up 8 – 1 in the second inning on the Little Dutch. Pella would fight back and score six runs in the fourth to get within one, but eventually drop that game, 10 – 9. Jablonski says that though they weren’t faced with those big-run deficits much this season, for his team to fight back and have a chance to win that contest showed what his team was made of this season. Pella’s record in games decided by three runs or less was 12 – 17.
