Pella and Norwalk last night played in a thriller that had everything and more, but it was the Warriors who ended up on top, 3 – 2, in the Class 3A district opener. Norwalk got things started with a pair of two-out RBI’s in the first and second innings and held onto that lead until the fifth. Pella racked up four hits that frame to tie things at two-a-side, and the game stayed that way through the sixth. Following a scoreless top half of the seventh, Norwalk had the bases loaded with nobody out. Pella coach, Jesse Jablonski brought in Tanner Wood from left for a five-man infield, but reliever Grant Judkins struck out the next two batters, and was a strike away from getting out of the inning with the tie game still intact, until one swing ended the ballgame. Coach Jablonski said after the game that his team’s emotions may have gotten the best of them towards the end. The loss ends Pella’s season with a record of 15 – 19, and with it, the high school careers of five seniors: Ryan Shull, Christian Stafford, Jacob Gleason, Daniel Langenfeld and Matt Nieuwsma.
