Finishing the regular season with a 28 – 7 record, the Central softball team was brimming with confidence heading into postseason play. However, they were bumped in their first game in the Iowa Conference tourney by eventual champion Luther, 9 – 3. Coach George Wares said that it was mainly due to a few factors: his team was a lock for a number two seed in the regional tournament the following week, and Luther more than likely would have needed to win the conference tournament to continue their season. Wares said that it would have been very unlikely for them to catapult past St. Thomas to get the number one seed in their region. The Dutch would sweep their regional to make it to the NCAA Division III World Series, where they lost to Montclair State and Texas-Tyler.
