Senator Chuck Grassley thinks it’s necessary to keep the Farm Bill alive, and believes it’s possible to get it in front of President Barack Obama before September 30th. He adds that time is the crucial factor in getting the bill approved, and says the House of Representatives have three options, pass the Senate bill, reconsider their vote, or go to conference with the Senate. His belief is that the House originally defeated the bill because of the food stamp provision and not the farm policy. When asked if he thinks these provisions can be agreed upon, he says they must be to avoid going back to the 1949 Farm Bill which he says is much more costly.
