Posted By News On July 7, 2013 @ 6:26 am In Today’s Local News | Comments Disabled
Marion County Rural Water reports tap water purchased from Pleasantville Water Works tested above the maximum contaminent level for alpha emitters and combined radium in 2012. Water also tested positive last November for total coliform. Officials say this is not an emergency, and they’re doing addressing the issue by backwashing water softeners more often. They will continue to test quarterly and anticipate resolving the problem within the year.
Officials add there is no immediate risk. Exposure over several years would lead to an increased risk of cancer. Water purchased from Knoxville Water Works did not violate any standards when tested. According to our records, Marion County Rural Water tap water purchased from Pleasantville and Knoxville did not violate those standards in 2010 or 2011 as well.
