Music is one of the joys of life, and learning an instrument and how to sing is extremely valuable for school aged children, according to Tim McBride and Megan Phillips music teachers at the Knoxville Middle School. Here are some things I learned speaking with them.

Kids should and do have fun playing music or singing. Sometimes practicing is hard work, but that is part of the lesson too.

Music help with the learning process in all disciplines–math, language, arts, history, and other social studies.

Some of this help comes actively in music and other classes, but much of it is subconscious.

Sometimes it is hard work, parents need to help.

Music also stands on its own as a discipline, as there is nothing else like it.

Music reflects life and culture, and is a universal language. Imagine a day without music? A movie without music wouldn’t have the power it does.

Enjoy the program.
