One of the exciting things about the 2013 Pella High softball team was the emergence of freshman pitcher, Elyse Sadler. The young member of the Lady Dutch was called upon to start a majority of the games in the second half of the season for Pella and kept hitters guessing with her nasty breaking pitches. Looking ahead to next season, Coach Krista DeMeulenaere says that she’d like for Sadler to hit the gym and gain some muscle so that she can be even more dangerous come 2014. DeMeulenaere said that there were many games where Sadler didn’t have to use her fastball because her off-speed and breaking pitches were so effective. The freshman finished with a record of 11 – 11 and an ERA of 1.81, while striking out 62.
