More often than not, Central baseball over the last two seasons has done very well in close games. You can attribute some of that success to the coaching staff, however, Coach Adam Stevens says his guys are just playing Dutch baseball. Stevens says they have always been a defense and pitching team, they won a ton of one-run games a year before, and it’s just a momentum factor where his guys feel comfortable in those situations and were able to step up and make plays when it mattered. The Dutch coach added that it’s not something you can teach or practice, he says it’s based on experience and once when you win a couple of those close ones, you just start getting some confidence. Central went 13 – 8 this year in games decided by two runs or less, and were 11 – 8 in the same situation in 2012. In 2014, Stevens will be returning several players who have been in those close games over the last few years, as the program enjoys a record number of seniors coming back to play Central baseball next year.
