Central softball this past season made it back to the Division III national tournament for the first time since 2003 when they won the title.Coach George Wares recognized that the difference between the eventual champion Tufts and his Dutch was the big bats and the protection needed for them. Wares says if you look one through nine in the lineup, his team needs somebody that their opponents look at and say, “We don’t want to face her.” Wares adds that they have a few of those players with Annie Sarcone and Abbey Strajack that are coming back for the 2014 season that can fill that role, but they need about three or four where they can mix them up and protect the others in the lineup, and that’s the biggest thing they need to do when looking at perhaps making it even deeper into the postseason next year. Central finished overall with a record of 32 – 10.
