Runs came at a premium for most of the first “half” of the season for Pella Christian’s softball team. They scored five or more runs in only four of their first 16 games. Coach Nate Van Wyk explained that his team just wasn’t putting the bat on the ball in that first handful of games. Van Wyk says that he was able to finally arrange the line-ups to their favor, and that’s when the bats started to wake up. Van Wyk says that if you look at the numbers as the season progressed, their strikeouts decreased greatly. They were starting to put the ball in play and put the pressure on the defense and forced them to make plays. In the final 16 games, the Eagles scored five or more runs in nine games.
