Two of our area schools have some excitement buzzing about them for this year’s volleyball season, and they’ll each debut in two separate contests tonight. Pleasantville opens up with a home contest against nearby Chariton, and the Trojans will get to debut their brand new gym floor that was installed over the summer. Coach Amy Updegraff says her team brings a lot of leadership to the table, and her seniors are looking to show everyone what they can do. Chariton knocked off both Wayne and Central Decatur on Tuesday to start their season 2 – 0. Melcher-Dallas welcomed new coach Tatum Starcevich into town during the offseason, and tonight, she’ll debut her 2013 Saints team at home against Bluegrass Conference foe, Mormon Trail. Starcevich’s team includes girls from Indianola that just came over during the softball season, and she says her team’s chemistry can help them compete with just about anybody. The JV contests for both schools are scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m., with the varsity games to begin immediately after.
