Area athletic departments are taking plenty of precautions due to the heat. Knoxville Athletic Director Randy Wilson tells KNIA/KRLS News that more water breaks are being encouraged. He says that they’ve moved high school practices to either the morning hours or after 7pm, and middle school practices are in the morning as well. The freshman football game between Knoxville and PCM was moved to Thursday night; it had been scheduled for Friday afternoon, before the varsity game. Melcher-Dallas and Twin Cedars pushed their game Friday back an hour, from 7pm to 8pm.
