Two things are definite in a cross country meet: the girls will run four kilometers and the boys run five. In order to achieve good times, Pella head coach, Doug Cutler says that all of his runners must “try or train,” which just happens to be the slogan for his teams this season. Cutler explains a little more what it means.
“The most succinct way I found to put it to the captains this summer so far is that, someone who tries is wishing that the task that they’re trying to accomplish would be made easier,” Cutler said. “Someone who trains is trying to improve themselves to accomplish the task as it is and understands that they cannot change it.”
Cutler says when you’re focused on training to become better, everyone can experience success. The goal is not to make things easier, he says, it’s to improve themselves.
