The Pella Christian Eagles flew into Ames on Saturday and came away with a 1 – 3 record on the volleyball courts in tournament action. The Eagles first fell to Urbandale, 13 – 21 and 17 – 21, then to the returning Class 4A champs, Charles City, 6 – 21 and 13 – 21. The win by the Eagles was over Des Moines East, whom they beat 21 – 13 and 21 – 13. Abby Pleima had six aces and a pair of kills, and Becca Gritters had seven kills. Pella Christian also faced for the first time this year, fellow Little Hawkeye Conference member, Dallas Center-Grimes, and took them the full three sets, but fell, 25 – 20, 21 – 25, and 11 – 15. Coach Cindy NIkkel tells KNIA/KRLS Sports that they were without their starting senior setter, Lauren Jungling and libero Julia Dykstra, so their back-ups got a lot of playing time. Nikkel adds her team kept getting better with each match, save for their serving. Pella Christian is now 2 – 4 on the season, and they will host Eddyville-Blakesburg on Tuesday.
